In England in the 1840s brilliantly transparent, multi-colored glazes were applied to relief modeled earthenware pieces to create a marvelous variety of charming and original effects called Majolica. This is a style also known in Italy and Spain. Mottahedeh's lotus pitcher is a fine example and is an exact hand-painted, reproduction ofan antique English original.
