The Merian Service was designed by Mottahedeh from a Chinese dessert plate produced circa 1735. We went back to the original artwork of Maria Sybilla Merians definitive scientific study “Metomorphosis Insectorum Surinamenuim” published in Holland in 1705 and hand colored the black and white linework drawings.
This remarkable dinnerware service features flowers and butterflies surrounded by an ornate rust and blue chain border. The collection is designed with 25 colors and clear raised enamels that glint in the light accented by soft matt gold. No two motifs on this service are identical. A true work of art and history.
